What is HTML Encoder?

Encoding replaces the five characters that HTML treats specially with entities, so text displays literally instead of becoming markup. Start your input with decode: to convert entities such as < back to characters.

How to use HTML Encoder

  1. Paste your input into the editor above, or select Sample to load an example.
  2. Select Encode HTML. If the input cannot be processed, a message explains what to fix.
  3. Use Copy or Download to take the result with you, and Clear to start again.

Example

Input

<a href="/">Home</a>

Output

&lt;a href=&quot;/&quot;&gt;Home&lt;/a&gt;

Practical use cases

  • Display markup as text
  • Prepare documentation examples
  • Inspect encoded snippets

Common problems

  • Treating entity encoding as complete sanitization
  • Double-encoding ampersands
  • Decoding untrusted content before rendering
